Expansions
The traitor will often need to place some tokens or various other components in order to prepare the mansion for the current scenario. The Traitor’s Tome instructs the player on what they will need to place where. If one or more players could be the traitor, it’s decided in one of two ways. If one of the possible traitors is the haunt revealer, then they are the traitor.
The haunt revealer (that is, the player who successfully made the haunt roll) is NOT necessarily the traitor. The amount of damage equals the difference between the two rolls. I played 2nd-edition Betrayal at House on the Hill to death so was wary of an update, but I needn't have worried.

There's a reason Betrayal at House on the Hill has endured for 20 years; it has one of the best hooks in the business. Although some scenarios feel unbalanced, most of them hit the spot. A lot are goofy enough to be remembered years after the fact, too. Maybe the house begins to sink into a swamp, forcing you to race for a boat in the attic.
